about me

Hi, I'm Tim — a data enthusiast based in Edinburgh, pivoting from a background in retail management into analytics. I bring a people-centered approach to solving problems, using data to drive insights and action.

In retail, I led operations, coached teams, and developed data-driven strategies, including a custom KPI that helped managers optimize scheduling and boost team performance. Even before I knew the terminology, I was thinking analytically and applying data to improve outcomes.

how i think

It clicked when I realized the skills that helped me in retail — spotting patterns, solving problems, anticipating needs — were the foundation of good data analysis. Recognizing that connection made analytics the clear next step.

Today, I work hands-on with Python, SQL, Excel, and Tableau, applying them to projects across healthcare, education, and global development.

I enjoy taking messy datasets and turning them into clear, actionable insights. Whether it's understanding what happened, spotting trends, predicting what's next, or recommending solutions, I'm committed to helping people make better decisions.

beyond the data

Outside of technical work, I stay grounded through projects that keep my curiosity sharp. I believe in slowing down and creating space for reflection, which is why I always carry a notebook and a fountain pen — ready to capture a thought before it slips away, reflect on a conversation, or save a quote that strikes a chord. It’s a small habit that keeps me connected to curiosity, even on the busiest days.

I'm currently listening to every album in *1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die* — in chronological order — a project that challenges my attention to detail and love of discovery. I've spent years curating detailed Apple Music playlists based on deep dives into Billboard and Official Charts Company data. I also hold diplomas in Single Malt Whisky and The Art of Tasting Whisky from the Edinburgh Whisky Academy — because if something blends history, culture, and craftsmanship, I'm all in.

And just for fun: if you're ever at The Mecca in Seattle, you can order the "Dammit Tim" Burger — the result of a few legendary nights and an even better story.

I believe the things we pursue outside of work shape how we think, solve problems, and connect ideas.

what's next for me

I'm focused not just on learning technical tools, but on strengthening my ability to think critically like an analyst: questioning assumptions, testing ideas, and turning complexity into action.

My goal is to join a team where I can keep growing, collaborate with curious people, and work on projects that create real impact. I'm especially drawn to problems at the intersection of human behavior and data — where insights drive real change.

If you're passionate about data, music, personal growth, or creative career pivots, I'd love to connect.
